Eric R. Kandel (1929- )

Awarded the Prize “for signal transduction in the nervous system.”

American neurologist. Kandel was born on November 7, 1929 in Vienna, Austria. Now he is an American citizen. He obtained his M.D. at the School of Medicine, New York University in 1956. He became a Resident in Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School in 1960. In 1974 he became Professor of Department of Physiology Psychiatry Director of Center for Neurobiology Behavior at Columbia University. Since 1992 he has been Professor of Department of Biochemistry Molecular Biophysics at Columbia.
