Mario R. Capecchi (1937- )
Awarded the Prize “for the discovery of principles for introducing specific gene modifications in mice by the use of embryonic stem cells.”Mario R. Capecchi is an American molecular geneticist who was born on 6 October 1937 in Verona, Italy. He received his Bacholor degree in Chemistry Physics from Antioch College in Ohio in 1961 obtained his Doctorate of Physics from Harvard University in 1967. He is now the Professor of human genetics biology in University of Utah, School of Medicine. He is member of US National Academy of Sciences.
