Elizabeth H. Blackburn (1948- )

Awarded the Prize “for the discovery of how chromosomes are protected by telomeres the enzyme telomerase.”

Elizabeth H. Blackburn is a female molecular biologist who holds dual citizenship with the US Australia. She was born on 26 November 1948 in Hobart, Australia. She received her Bachelor Master of Biochemistry from University of Melbourne in 1970 1972. She then received her PhD in Molecular Biology from University of Cambridge in 1975. She is now the Professor of Biochemistry Biophysics in University of California, San Francisco Campus.
