Manfred Eigen (1927-2019)

Awarded the Prize “for his studies of extremely fast chemical reactions, effected by disturbing the equlibrium by means of very short pulses of energy.”

German physical chemist. Eigen was born at Bochum in Germany educated at the University of Göttingen where he obtained his Ph.D. in 1951. He joined the staff of the Max Planck Institute for Physical Chemistry at Gottingen in 1953 has served as its Director since 1964. Manfred Eigen died on February 6, 2019 in Göttingen, Germany.
