
Paul Berg (1926-2023)
Awarded the Prize “for his fundamental studies of the biochemistry of nucleic acids, with particular regard to recombinant-DNA.”American biochemist. Berg was born in New York City on June 30, 1926. After graduating from Pennsylvania State College in 1948, he took his doctorate from Western Reserve University in 1952. From 1959 he was associated with the medical school of Stanford University, serving as Chairman of Biochemistry Department in 1969 becoming Willson Professor in 1970 Director of the Beckman Center for Molecular Genetic Medicine in 1985. Paul Berg passed away on February 15, 2023 at Stanford, USA.
