Johann Deisenhofer (1943- )

Awarded the Prize “for the determination of the three-dimensional structure of a photosynthetic reaction centre.”

German chemist. Diesenhofer was born in Zusamaltheim, Germany on September 30, 1943. He obtained his Ph.D. from the Max Planck Institute for Biochemistry in 1974. He remained at the Institute until 1987 when he moved to America to work at the Howard Hughes Medical Institute as a professor.
