Richard R. Ernst (1933-2021)
Awarded the Prize “for his contributions to the development of the methodology of high resolution nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy.”Swiss physicochemist. Ernst was born at Winterthur in Switzerl on August 14, 1933. He was educated at the Federal Institute of Technology, Zurich, where he obtained his Ph.D. in 1962. He spent the period from 1963 until 1968 working as a research chemist for Varian Associates, Palo Alto, California before returning to the Federal Institute of Technology, where he was appointed Professor of Physical Chemistry in 1976. Ernst died on June 4, 2021 in Winterthur, Switzerland.
