George A. Olah (1927-2017)

Awarded the Prize “for his contribution to carbocation chemistry.”

American biologist. Olah was born in Budapest, Hungary on May 22, 1927. In 1949 he received a doctorate from the Technical University of Budapest. He worked at the research laboratory of Dow Chemical. He was a professor at Case Western Reserve University and the University of Southern California at Los Angeles, where he became Director of the Loker Hydrocarbon Research Institute in 1980. Olah died on March 8, 2017 in Beverly Hills, California.
