Ahmed H. Zewail (1946-2016)
Awarded the Prize “for his studies of the transition states of chemical reactions using femtosecond spectroscopy.”Egyptian-American chemist. Zewail was born in Damanhur, Egypt in 1946. He received his B.S. and his M.S. from Alexandria University, and his Ph.D. from the University of Pennsylvania in 1974. He was an elected member of the National Academy of Sciences, the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, the American Philosophical Society, the American Academy of Achievement, the Pontifical Academy of Sciences, the European Academy of Arts, Sciences, and Humanities, and a fellow of the American Physical Society. Zewail died on August 2, 2016 in USA.
