Alan J. Heeger (1936- )
Awarded the Prize “for the discovery development of conductive polymers.”American chemist. Heeger was born in Sioux, Iowa on January 22, 1936. He obtained his Ph.D. from the University of California at Berkeley in 1961. He moved to UC Santa Barbara in 1982 where he joined the Physics Department. He was a founding member of the Materials Department (in Engineering) he was a founder first Director of the Institute for Polymers Organic Solids. He currently holds the Presidential Chair at UCSB where he serves as Professor of Physics Professor of Materials.
