Gerhard Ertl (1936- )

Awarded the Prize “for his studies in processes on solid surfaces.”

He is a German Chemist who was born on 10th of October 1936 in Stuttgart, Germany. He obtained his Master degree in Physics at the Technical University of Stuttgart in 1961 received his Ph.D. degree from the Technical University of Munich in 1965. He was director at the Fritz Haber Institute of the Max Plank Society from 1986 till his retirement in 2004.
