Osamu Shimomura(1928-2018)

Awarded the Prize “for the discovery development of green fluorescent protein (GFP).”

He was a Japanese Organic Chemist Marine Biologist who was born in Kyoto, Japan on 27th of August 1928. He got his Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry in 1960 at Nagoya University in Japan. He was a Professor Emeritus at Marine Biological Laboratory (MBL) in Woods Hole of Massachusetts Medical School of Boston University as well. Osamu Shimomura died on October 19, 2018 in Nagasaki, Japan.
