
Pavel Alekseyevich Cherenkov (1904-1990)
Awarded the Prize “for the discovery the interpretation of the Cherenkov effect.”Soviet physicist. Cherenkov was born in Voronezh, Russia on July 28, 1904. He was educated at Voronezh State University, graduating in 1928. From 1930 he was a member of the Lebedev Institute of Physics in Moscow. In 1940 he was awarded the degree of Doctor in Physico-Mathematical Sciences. In 1953 he was appointed as Professor of Experimental Physics, in 1959 he began to lead the Photo-Meson Processes Laboratory. Cherenkov died on January 6, 1990 in Russia.
