
Owen Chamberlain (1920-2006)
Awarded the Prize “for his discovery of the antiproton.”American physicist. Chamberlain was born in San Francisco on July 10, 1920. He obtained his bachelor’s degree at Dartmouth College in 1941, received his doctor’s degree from the University of Chicago in 1949. He once joined the Manhattan Project at Los Alamos in early 1942. He was appointed Professor of Physics at the University of California, Berkeley in 1958, served as Loeb Lecturer at Harvard University in 1959. He was a Fellow of the American Physical Society a member of the National Academy of Sciences. Chamberlain died on February 28, 2006 in Berkeley, California.
