Lev Davidovich Landau (1908-1968)

Awarded the Prize “for his pioneering theories for condensed matter, especially liquid helium.”

Soviet theoretical physicist. Landau was born in Baku, now the capital of Azerbaijan, on January 22, 1908. He graduated from the University of Leningrad in 1927. He was the head of theoretical physics groups at two of the institutes in Kharkov Professor at Kharkov University. He became Director of Theoretical Physics at the Institute of Physical Problems in 1937 Professor at the Moscow State University in 1943. Landau died on April 1, 1968 in Moscow.
