
Eugene Paul Wigner (1902-1995)
Awarded the Prize “for his contributions to the theory of the atomic nucleus the elementary particles, particularly through the discovery application of fundamental symmetry principles.”American physicist. Wigner was born in Budapest, Hungary on November 17, 1902. He was educated at the Berlin Institute of Technology, where he obtained his doctorate in engineering in 1925. He became a naturalized American citizen in 1937. He was Professor of Princeton University Wisconsin University, the Director of the Clinton Laboratory at Oak Ridge. He was a member of the National Academy of Sciences the Academy of Arts Sciences of America. Wigner died on January 1, 1995 in Princeton.
