Nicolay Gennadiyevich Basov (1922-2001)

Awarded the Prize “for the fundamental work in the field of quantum electronics, which has led to the construction of oscillators amplifiers based on the maser-laser principle.”

Soviet physicist. Basov was born in Voronezh, Russia. He received his doctorate from the Moscow Institute of Physical Engineers in 1956. He was vice Director Head of the Laboratory of Quantum Radiophysics at P.N. Lebedev Physical Institute of the Academy of Sciences Professor of Physics at the Moscow Engineering Physics Institute. Basov died on July 1, 2001 in Moscow, Russia.
