
Julian Schwinger (1918-1994)
Awarded the Prize “for his fundamental work in quantum electrodynamics, with deep-ploughing consequences for the physics of elementary particles.”American theoretical physicist. Schwinger was born in New York City on February 12, 1918. He entered the City College of New York at 14 years old graduated at 17 from Columbia University, where three years later he obtained his doctorate. He was Professor of Harvard University the University of California at Los Angeles. He was a member of the National Academy of Science the Academy of Arts Sciences of America. Schwinger died on July 16, 1994 at Los Angeles.
