Alfred Kastler (1902-1984)

Awarded the Prize “for the discovery development of optical methods for studying Hertzian resonances in atoms.”

French physicist. Kastler was born on May 3, 1902, in Guebwiller (now in France). He graduated from the Ecole Normale Superieure in 1924. He gained his doctorate at the University of Bordeaux in 1936. He was Professor of Bordeaux, ENS the University of Paris. Kastler died on January 7, 1984, at Bol, France.
