
Leon Neil Cooper (1930-2024)
Awarded the Prize “for his jointly developed theory of superconductivity, usually called the BCS-theory.”American physicist. Cooper was born in New York on February 28, 1930. From Columbia University he got his B.A. in 1951, his M.A. in 1953 his Ph.D. in 1954. He joined Brown University where he became H.L. Goddard University Professor T. J. Watson, Sr. Professor of Science. He was also Director of Brown University’s Center for Neural Science. He was a member of the National Academy of Sciences. Cooper died on October 23, 2024 in Providence, RI, USA.
