John Robert Schrieffer (1931-2019)

Awarded the Prize “for his jointly developed theory of superconductivity, usually called the BCS-theory.”

American physicist. Schrieffer was born in Oak Park. Illinois on May 31, 1931. He graduated from Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1953, obtained his Ph.D. from the University of Illinois in 1957. He was M.A. Wood Professor at the University of Illinois, A.D. White Professor at Cornell. He was a member of the National Academy of Sciences American Academy of Arts Sciences. Schrieffer died on July 27, 2019 in Tallahassee, FL, USA.
