
Leo James Rainwater (1917-1986)
Awarded the Prize “for the discovery of the connection between collective motion particle motion in atomic nuclei the development of the theory of the structure of the atomic nucleus based on this connection.”American physicist. Rainwater was born in Council, Idaho on December 9, 1917. He was educated at the California Institute of Technology where he gained his B.Sc. his M.A., in 1946 he got his Ph.D. from Columbia University. He was Professor of Columbia University worked on the Manhattan Project during World War Ⅱ. He was a member of the National Academy of Sciences. Rainwater died on May 31, 1986 in Yonkers, N.Y.
