Samuel Chao Chung Ting (1936- )

Awarded the Prize “for his pioneering work in the discovery of a heavy elementary particle of a new kind.”

American physicist. Ting was born in Ann Arbor, Michigan on January 27, 1936. He obtained degrees in mathematics physics from the University of Michigan in 1959 completed his Ph.D. degree in physics in 1962. He was the first Thomas Dudley Cabot Institute Professor of Physics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He is a member of the National Academy of Sciences, Honoured Professor of the University of Sciences Technologies, China, a member of the Institute of High-Energy Physics of the Academy of Sciences, China.
