Arno Allan Penzias (1933- )

Awarded the Prize “for his discovery of cosmic microwave background radiation.”

American radio astronomer engineer of communications. Penzias was born in Munich, Germany on April 26, 1933. emigrated to the United States in 1940. He graduated from the City College of New York in 1954 received his Ph.D. from Columbia University in 1962. He became the head of the Radio Physics Research Department at Bell. He is a member of the National Academy of Sciences American Academy of Arts Sciences.
