Sheldon Lee Glashow (1932- )

Awarded the Prize “for his contributions to the theory of the unified weak electromagnetic interaction between elementary particles, including, inter alia, the prediction of the weak neutral current.”

American physicist. Glashow was born in New York City on December 5, 1932. He gained his bachelor’s degree at Cornell University. His M.A. his Ph.D. in physics were gained at Harvard University. He worked at the Bohr Institute, the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) in Geneva the California Institute of Technology. After a year at Stanford he joined the faculty of the University of California at Berkeley. In 1967 he returned to Harvard as Professor of Physics. He is a member of the National Academy of Sciences American Academy of Arts Sciences.
