
James Watson Cronin (1931-2016)
Awarded the Prize “for the discovery of violations of fundamental symmetry principles in the decay of neutral K-mesons.”American physicist. Cronin was born in Chicago on September 29, 1931. Graduated from Southern Methodist University in 1951 with a B.Sc., he received his master’s degree in 1953 and his Ph.D. in 1955 from the University of Chicago. He then joined the staff of the Brookhaven National Laboratory, Upton, N.Y. He was Professor of Princeton University and the University of Chicago. He was a member of the National Academy of Sciences and American Academy of Arts and Sciences. Cronin died on August 25, 2016 in USA.
