Val Logsdon Fitch (1923-2015)

Awarded the Prize “for the discovery of violations of fundamental symmetry principles in the decay of neutral K-mesons.”

American experimental physicist. Fitch was born in Merriman, Nebraska on March 10, 1923. He was educated at McGill University, Canada and got his B.A. degree there. He obtained his Ph.D. from Columbia University in 1954. He then joined the Princeton staff, being appointed as Professor of Physics there in 1960. He was a member of the National Academy of Sciences and American Academy of Arts  and Sciences. Fitch died on 5 February 2015, in Princeton, NJ, USA.
