
Ernst Ruska (1906-1988)
Awarded the Prize “for his fundamental work in electron optics, for the design of the first electron microscope.”German physicist. Ruska was born in Heidelberg, Germany on December 25, 1906. He was educated at the Munich Technical University at Berlin University, where he obtained his Ph.D. in 1934. He worked at Siemens as a researcher. He was Professor of Electron Microscopy at the Haber Institute, Berlin. Ruska died on May 27, 1988 in Berlin.
