J. Georg Bednorz (1950- )

Awarded the Prize “for his important break-through in the discovery of superconductivity in ceramic materials.”

German physicist. Bednorz was born in Neuenkirchen, Germany on May 16, 1950. He graduated from the University of Münster in 1976 earned his doctorate at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology at Zürich in 1982. In the same year he joined the IBM Zürich Research Laboratory.
