Hans G. Dehmelt (1922-2017)

Awarded the Prize “for the development of the ion trap technique.”

American experimental physicist. Dehmelt was born on September 9, 1922 in Görlitz, Germany. He graduated with a doctoral degree in physics from the University of Gottingen in 1950. He went to the United States in 1952 began teaching at the University of Washington in 1955. He became full Professor there in 1961, in the same year he also became a U.S. citizen. Dehmelt died on March 7, 2017 in Seattle, Washington.
