
Wolfgang Paul (1912-1993)
Awarded the Prize “for the development of the ion trap technique.”German experimental physicist. Paul was born on August 10, 1912 in Lorenzkirch, Germany. He was educated at the universities of Kiel Berlin, where he obtained his Ph.D. in 1939. He taught physics at G?ttingen until 1952, when he was appointed Professor of Physics at the University of Bonn. From 1965 to 1967, he was Director of the Division of Nuclear Physics at CERN. Paul died on December 7, 1993 in Bonn.
