Robert C. Richardson (1937-2013 )

Awarded the Prize “for his discovery of superfluidity in helium-3.”

American physicist. Richardson was born in Washington D.C. on June 26, 1937. He received his undergraduate education at Virginia Polytechnic Institute. In 1966, he finished his graduate studies and obtained his Ph.D. from Duke University. He was the Floyd Newman Professor of Physics and Director of Laboratory of Atomic and Solid State Physics at Cornell University. Richardson died in Ithaca, New York on February 19, 2013.
