
Claude Cohen-Tannoudji (1933- )
Awarded the Prize “for development of methods to cool trap atoms with laser light.”French physicist. Cohen-Tannoudji was born on April 1, 1933 in Constantine, Algeria. From 1953 to 1957, he was educated at the Ecole Normale Supérieure. After more than two years’ military service, he returned the Ecole Normale gained his Ph.D. in 1962. Then he taught at the University of Paris. In 1973 he was appointed Professor of Atomic Molecular Physics at the Collège de France, Paris.
