
Jack S. Kilby (1923-2005)
Awarded the Prize “for basic work on information and communication technology and for his part in the invention of the integrated circuit.”American physicist. Kilby was born in Jefferson City, Missouri on November 8, 1923. He received his B.S. from the University of Illinois in 1947 his M.S. from the University of Wisconsin in 1950. He joined Texas Instruments Inc. in 1958. He took the position of Distinguished Professor of Electrical Engineering at Texas A&M University, College Station, TX in 1978. Kilby died in Dallas, Texas on June 20, 2005.
