
Riccardo Giacconi (1931-2018)
Awarded the Prize “for his pioneering contributions to astrophysics, which have led to the discovery of cosmic X-ray sources.”Riccardo Giacconi was an American Astrophysicist who was born on 6 October 1931 in Genoa, Italy. He graduated from University of Milan in 1954 with Ph.D. Later he migrated to USA got the USA Citizenship. He used to be Professor in the University of John Hopkins, he was principal investigator for the Chra Deep Field-South project with NASAs Chra X-ray Observatory. Riccardo Giacconi died on December 9, 2018 in San Diego, California, USA.
