Awarded the Prize “for his contributions to the development of laser-based precision spectroscopy, including the optical frequency comb technique.”Theodor W. Hänsch is a German Physicist who was born on 30 October 1941 in Heidelberg, Germany. He received his Ph.D. in University of Heidberg in 1969. Hänsch is Director of the Max-Planck-Institut für Quantenoptik (quantum optics) Professor of experimental physics laser spectroscopy at the Ludwig-Maximilians University in Munich, Bavaria, Germany.
