Toshihide Maskawa (1940-2021)

Awarded the Prize “for the discovery of the origin of the broken symmetry which predicts the existence of at least three families of quarks in nature.”

Toshihide Maskawa was a Japanese physicist who was born on 7 February 1940 in Nagoya, Japan. He graduated from the Nagoya University in 1962 received a Ph.D. in particle Physics from the same university in 1967. He was director of Maskawa Institute for Science Culture at Kyoto Sangyo University professor emeritus of Kyoto University. Toshihide Maskawa died on July 23, 2021 in Kyoto, Japan.
