George E. Smith (1930- )

Awarded the Prize “for the invention of an imaging semiconductor circuit – the CCD sensor.”

George E Smith is an American Physicist who was born on 10 May 1930 in White Plains, NY, USA. He attained his BSc at the University of Pennsylvania in 1955 his Ph.D. from the University of Chicago in 1959. He worked at Bell Labs in Murray Hill, New Jersey from 1959 till his retirement in 1986.
