Dutch-born American-Israeli economist and historian. Born in 1946 in Leiden, the Netherlands. Dr. Mokyr obtained his PhD from Yale University in 1974. Currently he serves as Professor of Economics and History at Northwestern University, USA, and President of the Economic History Association. He was awarded half of the total prize money for "discovering the prerequisites for sustained growth through technological progress".
