Canadian-born American economist. Born in 1946. Dr. Howitt obtained his PhD from Northwestern University, USA, in 1973. Currently serves as Professor at Brown University. He was awarded half of the total prize money (jointly with Philippe Aghion) for the "theory of sustained growth through creative destruction".
