Katalin Karikó (1955-)

Awarded the prize “for the discoveries concerning nucleoside base modifications that enabled the development of effective mRNA vaccines against COVID-19”.

Female, Hungarian scientist. Born on January 17, 1955 in Szolnok, Hungary. Dr. Karikó received a bachelors degree in biology in 1978 and a doctorate in biochemistry in 1982 from Szeged University, Hungary. Currently, she is the professor at Szeged University in Hungary and an adjunct professor at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania in the United States.
