
Michael Houghton (1949- )
Awarded the Prize "for the discovery of Hepatitis C virus."
British biochemist. Born on 1949 in United Kingdom. Dr. Houghton received his bachelors degree from the University of East Anglia in 1972 and a doctorate in biochemistry from Kings College London in 1977. Currently he is a holder of the Canada Excellence Research Chairs (CERC) in Virology and a Professor of Virology at the University of Alberta, and Director of the Li Ka-shing Applied Virology Institute at the University of Alberta.
