German astrophysicist. Born on March 24, 1952 in Bad Homburg vor der Höhe, Germany. Dr. Genzel earned his Ph.D. from the University of Bonn in 1978. Currently, he is Director of the Max Planck Institute for Extraterrestrial Physics in Gerching, Germany, Emeritus Professor of physics and astronomy at the University of California, Berkeley, and Honorary Professor at the University of Munich.
