Awarded the Prize "for its work to draw attention to the catastrophic humanitarian consequences of any use of nuclear weapons and for its ground-breaking efforts to achieve a treaty-based prohibition of such weapons."

International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons (ICAN) was launched in 2007 with its HQ in Geneva, Switzerland. As a global civil society coalition, aims to stimulate public and government support and to verify and enact conditions for the prohibition and elimination of nuclear weapons.
