Youyou Tu (1930- )

Awarded the Prize "for her discoveries concerning a novel therapy against Malaria."

Female, Chinese pharmaceutical chemist. Born on December 30, 1930 at Ningbo, China, Madam Tu graduated from Beijing Medical College (now Peking University Medical School) in 1955. She received Lasker-DeBakey Clinical Medical Research Award in 2011 and currently Lifetime Researcher and Chief Researcher at the Chinese Academy of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Director of Artemisinin Research Center in the Institute of Chinese Medicine. She wrote the book Artesunate and Artemisinin-based Drugs. She was awarded the State Supreme Scientific and Technological Award in 2016, highest award in science and technology in mainland China.
