Henryk Sienkiewicz (1846-1916)
Awarded the Prize “because of his outstanding merits as an epic writer.”Polish novelist. Sienkiewicz was born in Wola Okrzejska near Warsaw on May 5, 1846. He studied in Warsaw. In 1876, he made a trip to America and his impressions published in newspapers proved his talent as a writer. Sienkiewicz died in Vevey, Switzerland on November 15, 1916.
