Wladyslaw Stanislaw Reymont (1867-1925)
Awarded the Prize “for his great national epic, The Peasants.”Polish writer. Reymont was born on May 7, 1867 in the village of Kobielo Wielkie, Poland. When he was a young child his uncle the curate taught him Latin. Since his father couldn’t afford him a higher education, he had to be a help at the church. Afterwards, he was a technician of the railway, assistant to a landsurveyor, salesman of devotional articles and a lumberyard, and a travelling actor. He never abandoned his love to the letters and completed many works in his arduous life. Reymont died in Warsaw on December 5, 1925.
