Halldór Kiljan Laxness (1902-1998)

Awarded the Prize “for his vivid epic power which has renewed the great narrative art of Iceland.”

Icelandic writer. Laxness was born on April 23, 1902 in Reykjavik, Iceland. He was educated at the Icelandic Latin School and attended the gymnasium in Reykjavik briefly, without graduating. He traveled many ries in Europe and the United States and settled in Iceland in 1930. His first novel was published in 1927. Laxness died on February 8, 1998 in Reykjavik.
