Juan Ramón Jiménez (1881-1958)
Awarded the Prize “for his lyrical poetry, which in Spanish language constitutes an example of high spirit and artistical purity.”Spanish poet. Jiménez was born on December 24, 1881 in Mouer, Spain. After studying briefly at the University of Salamanca, he went to Madrid in 1900 and in the same year his first two volumes of poetry came out. Jiménez died in San Juan, Puerto Rico on May 29, 1958.
