
Ivo Andric (1892-1975)
Awarded the Prize “for the epic force with which he has traced themes and depicted human destinies drawn from the history of his ry.”Yugoslavian novelist, poet and diplomat. Andric was born in Dolac, Bosnia on October 10, 1892. He studied philosophy at the Universities of Zagreb, Vienna, and Cracow. After receiving a doctorate in letters from the University of Graz in 1923, he entered the Yugoslav diplomatic service. He started his literary career as a poet. Andric died on March 13, 1975 in Belgrade, Yugoslavia.
